That 90's Card Topic

Welcome! Once in awhile, I will post a topic of conversation and look forward to your responses. This is a place for you to sound off and give your thoughts on the topic. I run a similar segment on Sport Card Collectors but this one is different because it's all 90's collecting based.

Now onto today's topic:

What kinds of 90's cards would you like to see featured on Sport Card Collectors blog?

That 90's Card: 1999 Upper Deck Power Rally Derek Jeter

Being a Yankees fan, I had to dig this out. He's gonna be missed. This card came from the Yard Sale lot I have recently been posting about on Sport Card Collectors blog.

Pro Set was a product loaded with errors, huge base set and some good photography. Do you think this is a product that would survive in today's market?

That 90's Fan Favorite Card: 1992 Studio Promo card of Cal Ripken, Jr

This is now the third submission I have received to be featured on this blog for That 90's Fan Favorite Card. Today's submission comes from a long time fan of Sport Card Collectors Harold Tourjee. Come check out his card and why it's his favorite:

"I have a lot of favorite cards from the 90's. This is one of my favorites that didn't cost me anything - A 1992 Studio Promo card of Cal Ripken, Jr. I have been a customer of the local card shop for over 30 years. The owner knew I collected promo cards (I have a thousand from the 90's - mostly Junior). I walked into the shop one day and he had these promo cards that were exclusively given to dealers (unlike the 1991 promos given out in the Donruss sets). He gave me four of them. This is my favorite out of the 4 (the other 3 he gave me were Mattingly, McGwire, and Clark).

Thanks,
Harold Tourjee "

Thanks Harold for your submission. Feel free to send another one in! If you are interested in submitting a card and small write-up just like Harold did and be featured on this blog, just follow this link located HERE for info on how to.

That 90's Fan Favorite Card: 1991 Star Pics Brett Favre Autograph

I just received this submission for the NEW That 90's Fan Favorite card segment here on That 90's Sport Card Blog. So not only is this the first one, but what an awesome card to kick off this segment. Check it out and why it's his favorite:
"This is my favorite 90's card because it's the only "official" rookie autograph of my all-time favorite player. This particular card also cost me an entire summer of yard mowing! I found it at a Tuff Stuff card show when I was in middle school, and I decided I may never see another one and had to buy it. My dad agreed to pay for the card and let me work off the debt by mowing the yard for the rest of the summer. It was totally worth it!"

Bryan McCarter

Thanks Bryan for your submission. Feel free to send another one in! If you are interested in submitting a card and small write-up just like Bryan did and be featured on this blog, just follow this link located HERE for info on how to.

The Return Of The 90's...

Hey everyone! Just wanted to get the good news out there...That 90's Sport Card Blog will be returning after a short break! Woooo hooo!

There will be a few changes however, such as new topics and fewer posts a week but I had a lot of fun posting on here and when I find time to post, I will. I will also still be posting 90's cards on Sport Card Collectors as well for the next few months but those posts will be different from the ones I put on here. It will sorta be like getting a 90's double whammy and those are the kinda whammies you want.

I hope you are as excited about me reviving this blog as I am. Stay tuned for new posts soon!

FINAL POST

Well, this blog was fun and I enjoyed everyone who has spent time the last few months visiting it. However, there just isn't enough traffic for me to continue to put up new posts daily. I have tried many things to get this blog going and it just will not pick up. I average 24 visitors a day and it takes me sometimes over an hour to post so I am sadly having to give it up and put my focus back onto Sport Card Collectors only.

With that being said, don't count this blog out as I am not deleting it and in the future it will make a return so stay tuned! Also, don't count out the loss of 90's Card Posts as I am combining the posts on here already with the future posts I was going to put on here and incorporating them into Sport Card Collectors blog! That's right! Look for NEW posts there as I am redoing that blog as well. SHHHHHHH! That's also a secret!!! There are some BIG, EPIC, POSTS coming up so follow the above link to Sport Card Collectors and make sure you are following that blog to see what will make your jaw drop!

That 90's Mail Day: 1997 Goudey Football Lot

When scrolling through card lots on eBay, I always search for something 90's in the title knowing that for one, it will be cheaper, two, will bring back many memories and should look fantastic in my collection. When I found this lot of 1997 Goudey Football, that covered both areas.

For $1.47, I think I got a great steal. Let me know your thoughts as you view on!

Even some rookie cards were found in this lot. Corey Dillion, Warrick Dunn and Jake "The Snake" Plummer!
Overall a ton of value and I really like the design of the cards. Very bright and throwback.

Let me know your thoughts on my mail day and the design of these cards!

That 90's Mail Day: NBA Rookie Card Style

In today's edition of That 90's Mail Day, I was searching for good deals on rookie cards when I stumbled on this lot with two stars (even teammates) for only $2.99. It was a steal in my eyes!

Now onto the eye candy!

Steve Nash Hoops 1996-1997

And this awesome Kobe Bryant Fleer 1996-1997
It was a great mail day with two cards that will be heading straight for my PC. I would enjoy to hear your thoughts on this mail day as well.

That 90's Mail Day: 40 Card Pickup!

Recently I have picked up a few things on eBay that I wanted to share with you guys on here. One of the first things that caught my attention was this 40 rookie card lot and I think you will see why once you view the gallery.

Before showcasing you this lot, I must note that I only paid $5.99 for it with free shipping. I found great joy in remembering these cards and sifting through this lot when it arrived. I also really liked the value here as well.

Now onto the goods!

Rookie cards of Ty Law and Stephen Davis!

Always liked the design and feel of the 1995 Fleer NFL Prospect cards and this is Wheatley! Even better! As you will see, some newer cards were mixed in as well.

Drew Bledsoe rookie and a very iconic card picture in my mind...the Shawn "Springs" Topps Chrome rookie

The design for 1996 Playoff Absolute as shown below of Marvin Harrison is pretty cool!

One of my favorites all-time is the Ex design on these. Just plain beauty's!

Sweet Corey Dillion Topps Chrome rookie, Stephen Davis Sp rookie (these were hard to keep in mint and this one arrived so) a Marshall Faulk Elite Series insert and a Torry Holt rookie insert
This was a very impressive lot. I liked the brand variety in this lot. To be honest I wanted more and luckily the ones who sold these lots had one more which I did get for the same price but I will be saving that baby for another time.

Let me know your thoughts on this mail day!

90's Rip Party:1994 Fleer Ultra Series 2 Football 1 Pack Break

If you haven't figured out this yet, I am a huge fan of Fleer products. That is why I was led back to 1994 to break a pack of 1994 Fleer Ultra Series 2 football.

One of my favorite things about Fleer products was the inserts. They were always so bright and bold and very well done. Also, when it came to Ultra in particular, the base cards had tremendous border-less action photography as you will see below. The one thing I like to look for in a base card is as much action as they can show!

1994 Fleer Ultra Series 2 came with 12 cards per pack and one of those cards was a guaranteed insert or as they call it, a "limited edition" card.

Let's see how this break went and which "limited edition" card I ended up with:

BOOM! Scoring Power Ricky Waters! The pack states that inserts will fall from 1:3 to 1:37 packs. So I have no idea where this one falls in particular.
Overall, you get one special insert per pack with some more rarer than others. I liked this break. Great action base cards, insert per pack, this is exactly what you want in a 90's break.
